Selank; Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro tuftsin-analog anxiolytic peptide
Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide – a chain of seven amino acids – with the sequence Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro. It was first described in the late 1990s. Structurally, Selank is based on tuftsin, a naturally occurring tetrapeptide (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg) that is a fragment of the heavy chain of immunoglobulin G (IgG). The design extended tuftsin by adding a Pro-Gly-Pro tripeptide tail – the same stabilizing extension used in Semax – to slow enzymatic degradation.
