Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) is a coenzyme found in all living cells. It is a dinucleotide – a molecule composed of two nucleotides linked through their phosphate groups – one containing adenine and the other nicotinamide, a derivative of vitamin B3. NAD+ has a molecular weight of 663.43 g/mol and the formula C21H27N7O14P2 (CAS 53-84-9). First described in 1906, NAD+ exists in two interconvertible forms: the oxidized form (NAD+) and the reduced form (NADH). In its research-grade form, it is a white lyophilized powder that dissolves readily in water but degrades when exposed to light or heat, requiring refrigerated storage.
